5G spec process starts for real at 3GPP meeting in Busan

Today is the last day of a five day meeting being held in Busan, South Korea. The meeting, of the 3GPP’s RAN Working Group one and officially numbered 3GPPRAN1#84, has seen around 400 delegates gather together to develop specifications of next generation radio network and air interface technologies. Alcatel-Lucent forges 5G research partnership with leading German university

Alcatel-Lucent will work closely with Technische Universitát Dresden as they look to develop key 5G technologies. Bell Labs, the research arm of Alcatel-Lucent, will fund the research partnership with the university’s 5G Lab Germany to further understand and drive 5G requirements and solutions. The collaboration will focus initially on two areas of research: the use of multiple device-to-radio connections to enhance reliability, and further analysis of the proposed 5G air interface. Nokia makes 5G positioning key part of Alcatel-Lucent merger

Freescale and Bell Labs team up to create 5G ‘Universal Remote Node’
