Korea Watch: TeliaSonera and KT are just good 5G friends, nothing more

KT CEO and Chairman Hwang Chang-gyu poses with TeliaSonera CEO Johan Dannelind

TeliaSonera is pushing ahead with 5G collaborations after key executives from the company met up with KT and Samsung in Seoul, South Korea last week.

“important for the establishment of more effective 5G networks”

Johan Dennelind, CEO of TeliaSonera, was amongst the staff to visit KT’s LTE Innovation Centre and the HQ in Gwanghwamun, where he met KT CEO Hwang Chang-gyu. They discussed ‘future business models and standardisation of the 5G technology’ according to a KT official.

Park Mi-seon, KT spokeswoman, said: ‘A partnership with global telecom giants like TeliaSonera is important  for the establishment of more effective 5G networks and IoT’.

“intended to check up on mutual interests”

Whilst on their visit, management staff of the biggest telecommunications company in Scandinavia also met Samsung officials, with whom they discussed collaboration in the IoT. No announcement was made however, with the Korea Times reporting the meeting as ‘more practical and intended to check up on mutual interests’.
