DoCoMo now working with lucky 13 5G vendors
… as Nokia announces 5G to LAA and LTE interworking trials with the operator
NTT DoCoMo has released the names of five more vendors it is working with on 5G research, bringing the total number of vendor engagements to 13.
The latest five are Intel, Keysight Technologies, Panasonic, Qualcomm Technologies and Rohde & Schwarz. The operator will be working with these companies to widen the technical range of trials at its R&D Centre in Yokosuka, with work starting before the end of March 2016.
The eight companies already on the NTT DoCoMo 5G dance card are Alcatel-Lucent, Ericsson, Fujitsu, Huawei, Mitsubishi Electric, NEC, Nokia and Samsung.
One of those, Nokia, also just announced it will be working with NTT DoCoMo on certain techniques in the 4.4-4.9GHz band, including aggregation of unlicensed spectrum (LAA) and interworking with LTE (Dual Connectivity) between 6 GHz, cmWave and mmWave technologies. The aim is to achieve 10Gbps throughput on a new baseband supporting these air interface features.
