That’s a lot of 5G bodies
There’s a recent blog post by Karri Ranta-Aho at Nokia Networks that outlines the likely timelines for 5G definition, standardisation and development.
It’s going to take a lot of collaboration: here are some of the bodies discussing and researching 5G that Nokia is involved in: NGMN, ITU-R WP5D, METIS project, 5G PPP, 5G Forum, Future Forum, IMT-2020 (5G) Promotion Group, 863-5G, ARIB 2020 and Beyond Ad Hoc, 4G Americas, NYU Wireless Industrial Affiliates Program, WWRF.
Funnelling all the output from these bodies into one “5G Standard” will not be a “nut that cracks itself” and, as a result, Ranta-Aho adds:
“ultimately, the creation of a successful 5G standard requires adopting the best ideas, no matter where they come from”
There is also this handy timeline for how Nokia currently sees things going forward.
